Thermochip, member of the Sustainable Construction Wood operating group

Positioning wooden products for construction in the market is the priority ofWood Sustainable Construction, the operational group of whichThermochip He has been part of it since August, along with other members, to promote greater knowledge of the material. The project will make available to prescribers, agents in the forestry and construction sectors, industrialists and distributors, a selector of products whose raw material is wood of national origin.

The incorporation of technical and environmental data to wood products of Spanish origin is one of the objectives of the projectSmart tool for selecting wood products for construction. The aim of this is to demonstrate through environmental information the excellence of wood as a construction material, in relation to the values ​​associated with sustainability and to improve the presence and competitiveness in the markets of these products.

Collaborating institutions

The project brings together the capabilities of universities, research centers, companies and relevant actors in the forestry sector and the wood industry to make available to architects, prescribers and end users technical data and environmental information on wood products originating from forests in the national territory.

Wood Sustainable Construction is led byPEFC Spain(Association for Spanish Forestry Certification) and theUniversity of Córdoba, which carries out the technical coordination tasks of the project. Other members of the operational group are INIA (National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology), CSIC, the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences of the Higher Council for Scientific Research andInnovation Cup, among other companies.

The project has a subsidy of €495,066.74 intended for the execution of the innovation projectSmart tool for selecting wood products for construction. The amount of the project is 80% co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and 20% by funds from the General State Administration (AGE), as established in Royal Decree 169/2018, of March 23. TheGeneral Directorate of Rural Development and Forestry PolicyIt is the managing authority in charge of the implementation of the EAFDER and corresponding national aid.
